After participating in her Washington Junior High dance by “twerking” in front of her entire school, 11-year-old Jamie Hena faced serious consequences implemented by her mother. While Miley Cyrus’s twerking at the MTV Video Music Awards became a trending topic across social media outlets, on Sept. 10, Hena’s mother forced her to stand at a Bakersfield intersection with a sign that read, “I was disrespecting my parents by twerking at my school dance.”

Not only was Hena’s mother, Frances Hena, infuriated by her daughter’s shameful actions, but she was also angry that the school failed to inform her about the incident.

“I want her to realize that she is just a child and that she can’t do that,” Hena said, according to ABC news.
