School Celebrates Celebracion

During October, Marlborough commemorates Celebracion, when OLE (Organized Latina Exchange) holds events to spread awareness of Hispanic culture and heritage around our School. The tradition of Celebracion at Marlborough first started three years ago when OLE g

ot the idea to try to expand our knowledge of Hispanic culture in a fun and memorable way.

A churro truck stopped by School on Oct. 10, 2012, and Assistant Director of Admissions Christina Mariscal built a shrine built celebrating El Dia De Los Muertos (The Day of the Dead). Foreign languages Instructor Eric Reinholtz gave a speech about Spanish artist Pablo Picasso, and a flamenco dancer performed on Oct. 15, 2012 in Caswell Hall.

Zoe La Soya ’13, the secretary of OLE, said she wanted to start Celebracion after going to a Spanish program outside of school. After her experience she wanted to spread awareness of the Hispanic culture in our community.

Deborah Lee ’17 said that it feels like Hispanics are being included more in today’s society and that informational events like the ones that we have at Marlborough are getting rid of stereotypes.
