Here at Marlborough, one of our required classes is Water Safety and Emergency Preparedness, and for some girls, a whole semester of swimming and saving lives seems to be a bit daunting. If you’re itching to get your course requirements fulfilled without having to swim for half of the school year, there are a few options.

The first, is to take the course over the summer during Marlborough’s summer school. For $1350 and from 3 – 7 p.m. girls can take the course for only three week and earn a P.E. credit. However, with so many girls vying to finish their requirements, the class fills up quickly and is currently full.

Another emergency preparedness class is held at the Culver City pool. While this class does not give P.E. credits, it does fulfill the school requirement. Taught by Eugene Bivol for nearly 10 years, the course runs from June 3-5, from 5 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Friday, and 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Attendees will be certified lifeguards after the end of the weekend, although girls will still have to take a proficiency test with Mr. Tashiro for school credit. For non-Culver City residents, the course is priced at $175, and to register, you must call (310) 253-6650, because spots are filling up fast.
