As a result of the CIF’s (California Interscholastic Federation) decision to alter high school basketball divisions so as to separate small schools from large schools in competition, the Varsity Basketball team will shift this year from the Sunshine League division 1A to division 4A.
Jessica Goodkin ’12, a senior outside hitter, sees that she has gotten a perfect set, a little bit off the net and a little bit inside the court, and she sees a seam in the block, an opening in the other team’s formation.
Athletic Trainer Colleen (Whalin) Hungerford, who is beloved throughout the student body for her sense of humor, her kindness and her approachability, will unfortunately leave Marlborough this December and move to San Francisco to join her husband.

Devon ’12 qualified as an ASPCA Maclay Championship Medal Finalist on Sept. 17, and from Nov. 1-6, she and her horse, Curacao, headed for Lexington, Kentucky to compete in the ASPCA Maclay Finals at the Alltech National Horse Show.
Crew coach Nick Harding left CYC (California Yacht Club), a private clubhouse in Marina del Rey, to accept a coaching offer in Denver this past June, initiating a domino effect as five rowers, four of whom attend Marlborough, left the club to join its perennial rival, MAC (Marina Aquatic Center).
Due to disagreements between the owners and the players, the 2011 NBA season came to a grinding halt as of Jul. 1.
Due to a lack of participation and a dearth of scheduled matches in the Middle School water polo program in the past, this year the Athletics Department has folded the 7/8 Water Polo team into the 7/8 Swim team and, in doing so, changed the 7/8 Water Polo season from winter to fall, in an attempt to draw additional players from the Swim team, though it will not be mandatory for swimmers to compete on both teams.
This year, the Athletics Department welcomed three new volleyball coaches: Varsity Coach Shari Sakamoto, Varsity Assistant and Freshman Coach Matt Aquino and his brother, Junior Varsity Coach Carl Aquino.
