9th Grade presents their colors: red, orange and yellow

Each grade at Marlborough has its own traditions, but 9th grade marks the year that each class truly differentiates themselves from the rest with the selection of their class colors.

The Class of 2022 recently completed the months-long process of choosing their class colors that will be with them until graduation. After careful deliberation, the Class of 2022 has chosen red, orange and yellow and presented their color choices at colors presentation on March 14.

The class chose these colors so they could stand out from past grades that have chosen pastels. There were five different committees: colors, t-shirt, decorations, song and presentation. Environmental representative Sadie ’22 was in charge of the colors committee, which compromised 10-15 students. She said the process went smoothly, with students hosting friendly debates to decide on the right colors.

“A lot of people wanted pastel combinations that had already been done. So people got irritated when we couldn’t do these specific color combinations,” Sadie said.

Middle school representative Elise ’22 was on the presentation committee,  and she said that class meetings became more intense as they narrowed down the color options.

“I feel like there was a good amount of backlash. We have this scene in our presentation video where everyone is screaming at each other…and honestly, it wasn’t that far off from that when the cameras weren’t on,” Elise said.

The class also started the color selection process later than other classes as a result of more days off from school.Throughout the process, 9th grade Council sent out Google surveys of colors to increase grade-wide participation in the selection process. Council was especially grateful for the amount of passion from their classmates.

“People were definitely very passionate which was nice because our grade is usually so despondent with stuff like this. Everyone cared, and I feel like that is something people really didn’t expect,” Elise said.
