Emma ’18 has been volunteering with the homeless to give back to the community. She said she realized she could make a difference in less fortunate people’s lives when she was installing flooring tiles in a center for rehabilitation.

Elijah Pathfinder talks about homelessness in LA

Elijah Pathfinder was homeless for 20-30 years before securing housing the Section 8 program, which authorizes the payment of rental housing assistance to private landlords. It is a federal assistance intended for very low-income families, the disabled and the elderly. Under the program, a family receives a voucher from the government for 70 percent of the monthly rent. Before moving to Los Angeles, Pathfinder lived in San Diego.

The Institute for the Study of Homelessness and Poverty states on any given night, 82,000 people in Los Angeles, which is 1 in 217 people, are homeless. Homelessness is an especially relevant topic in Los Angeles, given the fact that according to a 2016 report from The Los Angeles Times, two thirds of all homeless people in the United States live in Los Angeles.

Putting the lid on disposable water bottles

Marlborough School’s Campus Environmental Committee (CEC) wrote a proposal, approved by the administration on Thursday, Feb. 9, to stop selling water bottles on campus starting the week of April 22 (Earth Week).

Ashforth accepts position at the Geffen Academy

Honors Research in Science Program Head and Head Equestrian Coach Dr. Elizabeth Ashforth is leaving Marlborough after nine years of guiding juniors and seniors in research projects and leading the Mustangs to Interscholastic Equestrian League (IEL) championship victories.

School welcomes two new college counselors

Marlborough will be gaining two new college counselors in the 2017-2018 school year. Director of College Counseling at Brentwood School Jawaan Wallace will join the Marlborough college counseling team; in addition, the School announced Brian Smith as the other counselor on Friday, Feb. 24.
