As new generations enter into an era of constant need for information and technology, people are finding new media through which they can express their ideals and publicly stand up for their beliefs, creating online identities that influence and are influenced by their real-life identities in the process.

Standing up without stepping on toes

Despite my view that it is my duty to stand up for what I believe in, I sometimes feel pressure to remain silent in order to avoid speaking out of place about groups of which I am not directly a part.

Is this what what a feminist looks like?

Although the topic of feminism arises more often in pop-culture, as celebrities, such as Beyoncé and Emma Watson, have begun to commonly use and identify with the term, “feminist” continues to be misconstrued and wrongfully associated with “man-hating,” despite the word’s actual definition centered on the idea of promoting gender equality.

Taking a stand

I’m taking a stand against Leo Tolstoy, but I’m not sure it’s the right thing to do. A long-deceased, widely-revered author is a formidable opponent.
