finished the season with a league record of 3-1-4 and an overall record of 5-5-8.
Working with new coaches and a young roster this year, the team came together. Coaches Amber, Liz and Andrea led a team comprised of mostly juniors and freshmen to success. According to co-captain Kate, Varsity Soccer has not triumphed like this in a long time. Because of the team’s results, it has been promoted to compete in the D1 Mission League for next year’s season.
“We definitely worked hard to get to that place, and I’m really proud of everyone for working together and trying really hard and having fun while doing it,” Kate said.
The Junior Varsity Soccer team won its league championship for the first team with a 4-0-0 league record. The team finished 4-3-2 overall.
Co-captain Shoshanah said the team focused on altering its team dynamic, which resulted in a winning streak. With two new coaches and a roster of almost 50 percent freshmen, the team was working with many new faces. Balancing out the youth on the team, the four seniors on the roster provided leadership and experience.
Coaching the team to success were sisters Krystal and Lindsay, who play women’s soccer at California State University, Northridge. The sisters adjusted to the Marlborough team well, according to Shoshanah, who explained that they maintained a light energy while still getting the necessary work done.
Shoshanah attributed the team’s success not only to the coaching staff but to the chemistry between the players.
“I think this year we have a particularly good group. We get along really well and share the same mentality on what it takes to win,” she said.
