Bianca ’16 Sprints to Victory

Every day after school, no matter what the conditions, Bianca  ’16 runs.

In just a few years, she has won many titles such as the Velocity Sports Performance Athlete of the Month, a training facility that helps makes athletes “stronger, faster, and more explosive,” where she was honored for her commitment and talent in cross country, track and field, and volleyball.  Bianca also has set many School records, including the most reps for the pacer test in Physical Education.

She started to get really involved in track and field and cross country when she was in 6th grade and this year decided forgo volleyball to focus primarily on cross country and track.

“I really enjoy [competing as a runner], and I wanted to devote more time to it so I could get better and improve my times,” Bianca said. “It was difficult to do both sports at once because they both require a lot of time.”

Bianca’s hard work has paid off.

“As she has gotten older and trained more, her times have definitely improved,” Director of Athletics David Collicutt said.

In her freshman year, she won the 800m at her first CIF Southern Section Championship for Track and Field and qualified to be instated into Marlborough’s Hall of Fame in her senior year.

“Once you’ve made the criteria [beaten a current school record], you are on the wait list and then inducted into the hall of fame.  Bianca will be presented this award at the Upper School Awards Ceremony in her senior year,” Collicutt said.

In her sophomore year, she placed first in CIF Finals Round for cross country, running a 5K with a time of 18:27.

This fall, she qualified during the CIF Southern Section Finals meet.  There were 580 different schools represented at this meet, and her time at CIF Southern Section enabled her to qualify for the CIF State Championship where she placed 6th.

As cross country season is now over, her will focus her efforts on preparing for track and field in the Spring.

“I am really excited about how this past cross country season has gone.  I am just going to keep practicing to get ready for track and field later this year,” she explained.
