Former Secretary of State Madeleine K. Albright visited Marlborough on Wednesday, Apr. 16. Albright spoke at the All-School Meeting, answering questions from a panel of five seniors. A personal friend of Kathryn’14 and her family, Albright also attended a reception for seniors, faculty, staff, and Trustees in Head of School Barbara Wagner’s garden after school.

Born in Czechoslovakia, Albright moved to the United States in 1948 where she attended Wellesley College as well as Johns Hopkins University and Columbia University. She was named U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations in 1993 and in 1997 became the first female Secretary of State, serving under the Clinton administration.

During her tenure as Secretary of State, Albright helped draft U.S. policy in the Balkan region; she also represented the U.S. during China’s acquisition of Hong Kong from the United Kingdom. She now teaches International Relations at the Walsh School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University.
