New all school events
All-school council is trying to push its theme of “one band, one sound” through more all-school activities.
Recently, the council held a “Feast from the East” to raise money that secretary/treasurer Christina ’10 said will be used to provide treats for the student body. Lee said the lunch was very successful because “different grades came out and supported, and the community effort was wonderful.”
She added that all of the councils contributed food to help out the lunch.
On Jan. 21, council is planning a lunch and an A period filled with activities to promote upper and middle school interaction. Students will be broken up into groups, each consisting of all grades, that will participate in a scavenger hunt and other athletic events.
Christina said all-school council hopes the event will result in a “strong sense of community” for the student body.
“Council hopes to create a fun-filled day for people to remember as part of their high school experience,” she said.

Athletic trainer Colleen is running the Los Angeles Marathon on March 21 and is using the event to raise money for AIDS Project Los Angeles. Her goal is to raise $1,600. She is just $230 short of her goal. To donate, visit apla.convio.net/goto/Colleen.Whalin.
“There was no way I could pass up the opportunity to help millions of people affected with AIDS and get in really great shape!” Colleen said.
Seventh grader Anna helped to organize a team of students to participate in the 5K walk “Walk for a Cure” on Nov. 8. The walk raises money to support the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
Freshmen Gulnar and Rachel were recognized by the Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth for achieving high honors when they took the SAT in eighth grade.
New babies for faculty
Four new faculty babies were born late November and early December.
History instructor Andrea Drobnick, Science instructor Amaria Parker, History instructor Helen Mendoza and English instructor Mark Krewatch’s wife Tamara McDonough gave birth to Elijah Jacob, Elijah, Marcos Enrique, and Maeve Catherine McDonough, respectively.
